Our researchers co-edit research topic in Frontiers in Aquaculture

We’re proud to announce that our team members Diogo Peixoto, Rita Azeredo, and Márcia Saraiva are serving as co-editors of the newly launched Research Topic “Reprogramming Health in Aquaculture: The Nutrient–Microbiota–Immunity Nexus” in Frontiers in Aquaculture, alongside Ana Basto (University of Porto).
This initiative addresses the urgent need for a systems-level understanding of how nutrition, microbiota, and immunity interact to shape health and performance in farmed aquatic species. With the rise of functional feeds and sustainable strategies in aquaculture, the topic focuses on uncovering how specific nutrients and microbial pathways modulate immune responses, metabolic trade-offs, and disease resistance.
The editors welcome contributions exploring immunonutrition, host–microbiome interactions, energy allocation during immune challenges, and the role of functional ingredients—supported by tools like multi-omics to link diet with systemic outcomes.
The call for papers is now open! Original research, reviews, and methodological studies are welcome.
