Portuguese Secretary of State for Maritime Affairs visit to CIIMAR
On February 20th, CIIMAR had the honor of hosting a visit from Dr. José Maria Costa, the Portuguese Secretary of State for Maritime Affairs.
During the visit, Dr. José Maria Costa explored the CIIMAR laboratories, encompassing its three primary research domains. The tour provided an in-depth insight into the progress and ongoing initiatives, underscoring CIIMAR’s dedication to leading the way in ocean knowledge and innovation.
Key highlights of the visit included a thorough examination of the Bioterium of Aquatic Organisms, a pivotal facility for advancing CIIMAR’s research, and a visit to our own lab. During this visit, Marina Machado had the opportunity to demonstrate the team’s main aquaculture research activities. Aquaculture has been recognized by this government as strategic for the country’s economic development and sustainability.
Additionally, the delegation explored the future site of the Hub Azul Leixões (HAL), where the Blue Biobank of the North is slated to be established. This ambitious project will highlighting Portugal’s pivotal role in understanding and preserving the planet’s biodiversity.
