Inês Carvalho completes PhD on tailored methionine nutrition in fish

We are thrilled to announce that Inês Carvalho has successfully defended her PhD thesis, titled “Tailored methionine nutrition in fish: effects on immunity, oxidative stress and beyond.” Her work advances our understanding of how precise methionine supplementation can enhance fish health, immune response, and resilience to oxidative stress.
Inês’s research was conducted under the supervision of Benjamin Costas and Marina Machado
Her thesis was evaluated by a distinguished jury, including:
– Dr. Luísa Valente (President), from ICBAS,
– Dr. Alessio Bonaldo, from U. Bologna, Italy,
– Dr. Carlo C. Lazado, from Norwegian Institute of Food (Nofima),
– Dr. Jorge Proença Dias, from SPAROS Lda. – Nutrition in Aquaculture,
– Dr. Irina Cruz, from ICBAS.
The defense highlighted the significance of Inês’s findings for improving fish nutrition strategies, with potential applications in both research and industry. Her work not only contributes to scientific knowledge but also aligns with global efforts to promote healthier and more sustainable aquaculture practices.
